#brothbabe: Fond Bone Broth Founder Alysa Seeland

March 21, 2019

We think it’s pretty obvious by now that we’re a bit obsessed with Fond Bone Broth and we’re even more obsessed with the founder, Alysa Seeland. Alysa founded Fond after seeing the dramatic positive health impact that bone broth had on her entire family, and she’s committed to using only the highest quality ingredients in her broth. She gave us a few minutes of her (very richly scheduled) time to ask her a few questions about her work and her drive, Read more below!

Tell us about you

My name is Alysa (a-lee-sah) Seeland. I’m 29, have four boys and I founded a CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) startup, FOND Bone Broth. I am an enneagram 2 and I am energized by helping others thrive.

What brought you to create Fond? What’s the philosophy behind it?

I used to think being thin was the same as being healthy. I had a health crisis and realized I wasn’t investing in my wellness – at all! We need to think about our health like anything else we budget and steward. If we keep making “dietary withdrawals” eventually the well runs dry. My journey led me out of the grocery store and the doctor’s office and into the fields and the Farmers’ Markets. I’m passionate about restoring good food to the shelves for busy folks, and Snap does just that!

What are the benefits of Fond’s bone broth and how should people use it?

The health benefits of bone broth range from soothing and healing the gut (now thought to be the origin of all disease and sickness) to aiding in mental wellness, boosting immunity, increasing collagen production, weight maintenance, and more! I use bone broth in ALL of my cooking and daily for intermittent fasting.

Why did you choose to carry Fond in Snap Kitchen?

Snap Kitchen is all about avoiding that mealtime crisis. You have a lifestyle you WANT to live and goals you want to meet and then – BAM mealtime presents a minefield of bad decisions that are easier to make. Well, not at Snap Kitchen! We love helping people choose a DELICIOUS and nourishing option at mealtime that is low carb, full of protein, good for you, and full of flavor!

How do you find balance?

Balance is a moving target for me, it has meant different things at different stages of my life. I think it is really important to just stop every once and a while and say personally, “Do I like where I’m going? Do I feel fulfilled in what I’m doing? If not, how can I change that.” For me as a CEO and mom of four, I find the biggest skill to achieving balance in my life is being able to say, “No” to things I shouldn’t be doing.

Favorite thing about your job

My favorite thing about FOND is the customer feedback. I love hearing how much people enjoy a delicious, clean product.

What are your top 3 favorite meals?

  1. Nothing beats a good steak and veggie dinner.
  2. I’m a big fan of breakfast skillets with poached eggs.
  3. I LOVE the chopped brisket from Snap Kitchen.

What are 5 things you can’t live without?

  1. Bone broth
  2. Avocados
  3. Pasture-raised eggs
  4. Espresso
  5. Bandanas.

Any advice for entrepreneurs?

A lot of people feel like they give up their lives professionally when they have children. My entrepreneurial life flourished when I had children because it gave me the space to create it. Real, life-changing products arise from solving real, everyday problems. So many people have gone on to create amazing products because they were just living life like – “Oh, there’s a better way to do this!”

We’ve never regretted being product-first in our company. We have the best bone broth in the country and we have no doubt of that, we’ve tasted the others. We are CRAZY obsessed over the product and it has made all the difference. I will always be proud of what we’ve done through FOND in showing you can make a delicious product without compromise.

I would love to see a post about Snap Kitchen’s sustainability efforts. Perhaps recommendations for recycling your packaging, or some information about where the produce is sourced from.
