Curious About Eating Low Carb?

April 11, 2024

Raise your hand if your first thought when hearing the words low carb is “What can I eat? Will I have to give up allll my carbs 🙋🏻?”

We get it: going low carb sounds a little intimidating at first, but trust us – we’ve got you on this. We offer low carb meal options because healthy eating looks different for everyone. No matter what, we love supporting you in choosing the best option to fit your lifestyle. Read on for a little more about what eating low carb meals means and how to follow this way of eating healthily.

What does it mean to eat low carb?

Low carb doesn’t mean no carb, but instead swapping some higher (and often processed) carbohydrate foods to focus on healthy fats, veggies, and high-quality proteins that are more nutritious. Options like our Chicken Piccata Meatballs or Chicken Caesar Wrap focus on healthy fats and protein with just the right amount of carbohydrates to keep you fueled. Here at Snap, we believe low carb meals can still be delicious, flavorful, and 100% enjoyable!

What foods are low carb?

High-quality protein sources (think chicken, beef, eggs, turkey, venison, bison, and more), healthy fats, and low carb veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, and greens of all kinds are a total go. Our low carb meals have 30g (or less!) of carbs. We also have other meal options that hit even lower to help you achieve your goals. That means you can keep your carbs to around 100g a day or less if you want to! The bonus of eating our meals? Not only are they developed by our team of chefs and dietitians, but they are balanced in protein, fat, and carbs to fill you up while making you feel great. And did we mention that they’re delicious?

Eating low carb meals is different than eating Whole30, paleo, or keto-friendly in that there’s a lot more flexibility. Not much is off-limits. Instead, it’s all about focusing on your carbohydrate portions.

What are the benefits?

While an individual’s carbohydrate needs vary depending on health goals and your activity level (i.e., you’ll most likely require more carbs if you are very active), studies have shown that eating a variety of nourishing foods that are naturally lower in carbs can improve mood, blood sugar, energy, and sleep. When you eat more carbohydrates than you need in one sitting (especially the starchy, highly processed kind), it can cause your blood sugar to rise and then fall quickly – leaving you tired and cranky. We like to call this the blood sugar roller coaster. Balancing the right amount of nutrient-dense carbs with healthy fats and protein can help your blood sugar stabilize, giving you steady energy. Besides, many people eating lower carb have seen more significant weight loss compared to other ways of eating, most likely due to a higher intake of protein and healthy fats that help keep them full and satisfied.

Bottom line: living a low carb lifestyle should NEVER feel like a sacrifice, and we’re here to make it as easy, nutritious, and delicious as possible (hello Peach BBQ Brisket with Loaded Cauliflower and Burger Bowl with Dill Relish 😍).
