This weekend, I decided to ask ChatGPT what to eat for the week. I am sure countless other people have done the same, and I was curious what it would spit back.
First, ChatGPT asked for context (which my dietitian heart applauded). Any dietary restrictions or preferences, it asked? Do you want quick meals or more involved dishes (QUICK please)? Any fitness or health goals? How many meals are you looking for? Any ingredients you’re craving or enjoying?
With that info, it promised to build me a full week’s worth of meals and snacks.
A promising start!
I gave a set of goals that are common for many of us (including a lot of our Snap customers): gluten-free, quick and easy, aimed towards losing weight and decreasing inflammation. And please handle all of my meals and snacks!
Here’s what it told me to eat, saying the plan focuses on whole foods, healthy fats, lean proteins, fiber, and low-glycemic carbs (I guess I’ll be the judge of that!):

It went on to ask if I wanted a shopping list or meal prep tips (more on that later!).
My Takeaways (as a Registered Dietitian)
First, and perhaps most striking, was that at least 1-2 of each day’s suggestions were variations of a meal I could buy ready-made from Snap Kitchen. Second, the breakfasts are not high protein enough for anyone looking to lose weight while maintaining muscle mass (check out one of our high protein meal plans!).
And finally, I had the thought of, “what now?”
Sure, ChatGPT can give me all this, but can it do the shopping for me? How about the prep? We love a meal plan as much as the next person, but how about you let us handle the heavy lifting? Our dietitian-developed meal plans are not only customized to your specific goals, from postpartum nourishment to naturally increasing GLP-1, but they are also completely ready for you to heat and enjoy. I don’t think ChatGPT’s meal plan can say the same!
