With 2022 fast approaching, foodies like us are all a-buzz about what new flavors and food trends we’ll be seeing (and tasting!) in the new year. Whether you’re hoping for one of your hard-to-get favorites to finally get some time in the limelight or just to experience something new and exciting, the food trends of 2022 are looking downright delicious.
Trend #1: Big Breakfasts
In 2022, the big breakfast is back – like bigtime. From the Full English set up to the homemade Grand Slam, wherever your neck of the woods, you know what ‘big breakfast’ means. Of course, you can still go big without the fat-heavy, carb-o-craziness associated with most big breakfasts. For your 2022 big brekky, we recommend you go for lean proteins and slow-burning whole grains. Of course, a little natural sweetness is always a treat, but you can never go wrong with a savory or spicy addition like salsa or hot sauce.
If you’re a big fan of the big breakfast, look out for our Steak & Egg Tacos with Salsa Verde and our Blueberry Pancakes with Breakfast Sausage & Strawberry Compote – arriving in January.
Trend #2: Mushrooms
Get a Power Up with Mushrooms!
Foodie forecasters are all saying mushrooms will be trending big in 2022! And that’s got us super excited. Packed with so much umami goodness, cap to steam – mushrooms are a perfect low-calorie protein that’s both yummy and good for you too! Just like Snap!
If you’re a fan of mushrooms like we are, try our Romesco Chicken with Grilled Kale & Mushrooms. And, starting in January, our Beef Bourguignon with Potato-Turnip Mash.
Trend #3: Turmeric
Turmeric is one of those spices that’s been used by humans for centuries, so it’s no wonder you see it trending every few years. And there’s good reasons for it, too! This rhizome, which we often find in powdered form, is historically celebrated for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to lower blood pressure. Turmeric is often used to lend its golden hue and black-peppery vibe to savory dishes, stews, and curries. Its flavor is warm and earthy and provides a balancing foundation on which to build other, more complex spice combinations.
Show turmeric some love and try our Shawarma Chicken Bowl with Lemon-Tahini Sauce – coming in January.
Trend #4: Mild & Medium Heat Chiles
The intense heat of the chile is celebrated in so many cultures around the world. In India, with Vindaloo. In China – Mapo Dofu. In Ethiopia’s Doro Wat and in America – with episodes of Hot Ones. Well, super-spicy chiles – scooch aside, because 2022 is all about the mild and medium heat chiles. Full of flavor-lifting, fruity warmth and earthiness, and even dark, rich vanilla-esque flavors, mild and medium heat chiles are finally getting some trend-love. South America offers a staggering variety of mild chiles, but you can find them lending their tasty talents to dishes all over the world, like gochugaru and pimenton, aka paprika.
Speaking of sweet, smokey, mild heat…
Look out for our new Shrimp Paella with Saffron Rice joining Snap’s menu in February.
Trend #5: Modern Comfort Foods
Once in a blue moon a food trend will give us a new ingredient that’s so amazing, we don’t know how we lived without it. (I’m looking at you, avocado.) We think “modern comfort foods” has that kinda shine. In 2021, more and more people were reaching for cozy meals with a modern twist to satisfy their cravings. Look we’re talking more ramen, pierogies, falafel, and birria tacos.
What food trends are you looking forward to in 2022? Got a ‘modern comfort food’ Snap favorite? Let us know below. We’d love to hear from you!

Za’atar Chicken with Lemon-Roasted Potatoes My Fav. This food is amazingly tasty and so satisfying. Rather than eat the frozen boxed foods loaded with sodium, we have these balanced meals!! I find when I eat good qualify food, I want to snack less. I do wish you could come up with some type of dessert menu! Again maybe low carb, low sugar and portion control!! I would buy it.
I would like to see more dishes with Brussel sprouts.
Hey Kathryn! Thank you for the feedback. The Herb Butter Steak is paired with brussels right now, and we’d have to agree they are quite delicious. We’ll definitely relay this comment to the culinary team!
