How to Eat Keto Without Cooking

February 8, 2021

The ketogenic diet. It’s all the rage and for a good reason. The ketogenic diet is all about eating fats and seriously limiting your carbs. So, you get to enjoy a lot of deliciously healthy fats and proteins while also working on reducing inflammation by avoiding grains and processed sugar.

What does it mean to eat keto-friendly?

As a quick rehash, the ketogenic diet is simple: it’s a diet that is all about high fat, moderate protein, and very low carb intake.

This typically translates to:

  • Daily Calories from Fat: 75-80 percent
  • Daily Calories from Protein: 15-20 percent
  • Daily Calories from Carbs: 5-10 percent

Most experts recommend minimizing your daily intake to 20-50 grams of carbs, but it can be higher depending on your activity level.

The idea is that once you control your carb intake, your body goes into ketosis, which means that your body is running on ketones and burning fat instead of sugar. The ultimate goal here is increasing your blood sugar regulation and insulin sensitivity, but along the way, your hunger and cravings, your energy levels, your metabolism, and your ability to burn fat are all improved.

Sounds fantastic, right?

Then comes the hard part: actually cooking all of it. You can probably get by for a little while with snacks like nuts and pork rinds, but that only works for so long. So, here’s our recommendation for how to eat keto-friendly without having to put on an apron and get cooking.

How to eat keto without actually cooking

The answer to this is easy! Do. Your. Homework. I know, I know, we hate homework, too. Research is key here if you’re going to change up your lifestyle. (You can always grab our keto grocery shopping guide and cheat sheet if you want an extra hand!)

Start with three main categories:

  • Veggies – We’re talking leafy greens like arugula, spinach, kale, spring mix, and more; mushrooms, asparagus, cabbage, etc. All of these veggies are low in carbs.
  • Proteins – We’re all about grass-fed or pasture-raised meats (and yes, we mean beef, turkey, chicken, pork, bison. The list goes on). Plus, you’ll also want to include eggs, full-fat greek yogurt, even bone broth in the mix.
  • Dairy – Full. Fat. Yes, we’re talking unsweetened and plain full-fat yogurts, milk, etc.

Or if you want to avoid shopping altogether, ahem, we have you covered! At Snap Kitchen, we have a keto-friendly meal plan just for you. The Snap Kitchen keto-friendly meal plan centers around 30 grams of net carbs per day, so you can eat deliciously healthy and comforting dishes while also staying in ketosis.
