Sebastian — The Story of a Real-Life IRONMAN

August 27, 2020

We believe in delicious, healthy food that gives you the perfect balance to fuel your day. And it’s that same belief that steered us towards eventually crossing paths with Sebastian De La Riva.

De La Riva is training for his first IRONMAN triathlon. What that means is that he has to prepare for:

  • A 2.4-mile swim
  • 112-mile bike ride
  • 26.2-mile run (or a full marathon)

Preparing for a full marathon alone is enough to give anyone a solid year’s worth of training, nightly running rituals, and new nutrition needs. But a full IRONMAN triathlon? It requires an almost absurd amount of dedication, discipline, and motivation. But De La Riva believes he has what it takes.

“I have three main goals for this whole journey, says De La Riva. “The main one is to lose around 60 pounds before race day. The race is on April 24th of next year, 2021. I want to cross the finish line in under 16 hours. And…most importantly…I want to create healthy eating habits.”

Well, that sounds just like something we can get behind. With that, we’ve decided to sponsor De La Riva on his journey! Here’s what we’re doing to help him accomplish his three goals:

  • We’ve connected him with fellow Snap Kitchen ambassador, Brittany Ann, who is a personal fitness trainer.
  • We’ll sponsor a cycling event for Sebastian and his friends in Houston on August 22, 2020.
  • And we’re committed to providing him with nourishing & energizing meals every week until his big race!

De La Riva has just recently passed the two-month mark, and we couldn’t be prouder. He’s already down 25 pounds, but more importantly, he’s feeling great both mentally and physically.

“So far, my biggest challenge has been time management. But my biggest motivation has been being able to inspire others to also pursue their health and fitness goals.”

Since using Snap Kitchen to help balance his nutrition while training, De La Riva says he’s started to feel more energized.

“My mood is correlated to how I look and feel and I am feeling absolutely amazing! When I start looking myself in the mirror and start noticing physical changes, I feel good and [that] makes me super happy,” says De La Riva.

Not only that, but his pace time has improved, as well.

“My average run pace has improved from 12:50/m to 11:35/m which in the long runs is amazing. Also, because I am losing weight, my body is taking less time to recover. I literally feel like I’ve taken a weighted backpack off my back, and though I am still a long way to go, I already feel a lot lighter.”

But above all, the convenience that perfectly balanced and portioned food is waiting for him after his training sessions gives him peace of mind.

“Having my meals ready, fresh, and perfectly measured helps me by not having to worry about my nutrition (which in reality is the biggest part of this journey as nutrition is 80% of the race.) I know that what I am putting into my body is extremely healthy and will help me every day for training… and I FEEL GREAT!” says De La Riva.
