How Can You Eat at Home Without Cooking?

February 3, 2021

We get it—there’s no time quite like right now to experience cooking fatigue. In many ways, it feels like we’re living in a simpler time—you know, the time before delivery services, before frozen foods, tv dinners, and take out, where every meal involved planning, cooking,  cleaning. But we’re here, surrounded by all of our technology and all of the luxuries mentioned above—a world busier and more connected than ever before.

And yet, for the good of everyone, we have to stay home.

The problem is clear: it’s Tuesday, and you’ve pretty much had about all you can take of your usual frozen pizza dinner. We know that feeling extremely well.

Without relegating yourself to eating just cereal and yogurt for every meal, or something worse, here are a few ways you can eat at home without cooking (and without losing your mind in the process).

1. The most obvious option: take-out & delivery

The downsides? This option can get pricey. Plus if you’re concerned about potential food-allergens, you never know what your food is cooked with, what Covid-19 policies they’re adhering to, what the nutrition facts are. All-in-all, it’s a bit of a gamble to rely on take-out and delivery, especially if that’s your primary method of eating at home without cooking.

However, it’s always a delicious option, and for the lazier of us, it can be an excellent way to ensure that you’re getting variety in what you’re eating but isn’t usually the best option if you’re interested in consistent colorful nutrition and diet. Many restaurant dishes are loaded with unhealthy fats and usually focus more on what might taste good rather than being part of a well-rounded meal that’s wholesome for your body.

Additionally, if you’re following this method, it’s a very good idea to be portion-conscious, because many restaurant meals have larger than needed portion sizes. It’s a great idea to eat half for dinner and save the other half for lunch the next day. A bit of a win-win, if you ask us.

2. Meal Kits vs Ready-Made Meal services like Snap Kitchen

Meal prep services have been popping up like sunflowers—especially since the start of Covid-19. And it’s no wonder.

Most meal delivery services are focused on delivering healthy food directly to your door. And there are three main ways they are delivered.

  1. Meal Kit – You can get a meal kit service that just ships you the ingredients, but you still have to do the prepping and cooking, a la Blue Apron. The downside here is you still have to do the prepping, cooking, and cleaning, of course.
  2. Prepped Ingredient Meal Kit – You can get a delivery service that ships you the ingredients all prepped for you, but they aren’t cooked yet a la Daily Harvest. The downside here is that you still have to do the cooking and cleaning.
  3. Ready-Made Meal Delivery – This is usually from a healthy meal delivery service like Snap Kitchen, where there’s zero prepping, cooking, or cleaning!

We simply ship you 6 or 12 healthy, ready-made meals to your door. Then, you just pop in the oven or microwave and enjoy in 3 minutes or less! No grocery store, no cooking, no cleaning—plus, it’s a great healthy and delicious alternative to that boxed mac and cheese meal you were thinking about throwing on the stove.
