Here at Snap Kitchen, we’re ALL for tailoring your meal plan experience to match your unique set of health goals. We take the *boring* out of traditional meal prep (forget the endless rounds of the same chicken over spinach combo) and give you flexibility in meal varieties to create the healthy lifestyle you love (with less dirty dishes… #praise). This is why we offer over five different meal plan options: we know that making the right food choices for you means finding what works for you.
But how do you know which one of our (dietitian-approved!) meal plans is right for you? No worries, my friend – we’ve got you on this one: we’re breaking down the who, what, and why of each one of our meal plan options to give you some guidance in choosing the best fit for you. Today we’re talking Whole30.
Whole30: What is it?
Whole30 is just as the name implies: a 30-day nutrition reset that removes common food allergens including grains, dairy, legumes, soy and added sugars. These are the top foods that cause sensitivities for many people and are removed for the purpose of identifying the foods that your body does not react well to. Whole30 is not a diet, but rather designed to give you the insights to learn which foods make you feel the best. Think of it as a focus (or refocus) on eating whole, real and unprocessed foods.
After 30 days, the eliminated food groups are slowly reintroduced back into your diet, one week at a time. For example, the first week after you might add dairy back in. Notice how you feel when it’s back in your regular diet – did dairy give you indigestion? Do gluten and soy make you tired? By knowing how each food group affects your body, you’ll have the knowledge to pick the best food choices moving forward. The goal is to know which foods make you feel your BEST.
So… What can I eat on Whole30?
ALL REAL, WHOLE FOODS. (Now we can get down with that!) Think of all the good-for-you foods we love to make delicious and cravable: whole vegetables, unprocessed meats + poultry + seafood, eggs, nuts, seeds, healthy fats such as avocado or coconut oil, and even coffee (#blessed)!
Here’s a more detailed list of foods to remove during Whole30:
- Grains: oats, corn, rice, quinoa, wheat, rye, millet, sorghum, amaranth, buckwheat, sprouted grains
- Legumes: peanuts, chickpea, lentils, all beans (black, red, pinto, white, kidney, lima, fava..etc.)
- Dairy: cow milk, cheese, yogurt, cream, kefir, ice cream, frozen yogurt
- Soy: tofu, soy sauce, edamame, miso
- Added sugars (both real and artificial): maple syrup, honey, agave nectar, coconut sugar, stevia, xylitol, Splenda
- Alcohol and common additives such as MSG, carrageenan, sulfites
It might seem a little intimidating at first but remember the goal isn’t to restrict our options, but rather help us make more mindful choices, refine our taste buds for the good stuff, and help us all feel freaking AMAZING. All ingredients used in our Whole30 meals are 100% compliant (no guessing over labels here) and 200% delicious (#TRUST) We make it easy for you and give you options you want without ever compromising on taste or variety!
What should I expect after 30 days?
Although each person’s experience and results will be different, reported benefits such as increased energy levels, better digestion and skin, and decreased sugar cravings are commonly noticed by those who complete Whole30. While weight loss is not a goal (it’s actually recommended that you do not weigh or measure yourself during the 30 days), it’s often a result and direct side effect of focusing on eating real, whole foods. Plus, you might find that your relationship with food has improved.
Our Whole30 meal plan takes all the guesswork out of meal planning AND prepping to help keep you accountable (p.s. we even deliver FREE right to your doorstep if you live in our delivery zones!). We’re here to support you in your lifestyle and make healthy, real food enjoyable AND satisfying (and help you save time + money in the process). Switch things up with fan favorites like our Shrimp & Cauliflower Grits or Chicken Pad Thai (with spiralized sweet potatoes!), all of which are Whole30 approved and delicious #AF. Mix and match to your heart’s desires and prepare to feel AMAZING!
